11 Month Countdown…

I feel like the one year mark was just the other day, so yesterday being the 11 month countdown comes as a shock. Here is what we’ve been busy with…

We just got back from visiting CT to see our venue. The Barn looked amazing all glammed up for a summer Saturday night wedding. It was just the inspiration we were hoping for from our visit and certainly got us excited for our wedding. While visiting we scouted some places for our rehearsal dinner and really liked this one place – Esca Restaurant & Wine Bar. It had a lovely private function room and a delicious menu – both important for such a special intimate night with our family and closest friends.

Something about sending out the Save the Dates has me excited and anxious, it’s almost as if our wedding date just became official. We just ordered the Save the Dates from The Wedding Outlet which offers designs from Botantical Paperworks – one of my favorite vendors. I really love the concept behind plantable stationery. It’s a unique idea that is fun for the guests! Stay tuned – I’ll be sharing my designs soon.

We booked our Florist – Just for You Florist so I’ve created a Pinterest Board (typical bride move – right?) collecting all my centerpiece and bouquet ideas. I am really loving the look of wildflowers, peonies and succulents.

And lastly, the most exciting part of this month was finally finding “the dress”! After trying on many beautiful dresses I finally decided on the one. Party Dress Express was amazing to work especially Denise, she was so patience and helpful and it was her that suggested the dress I ultimately said yes to! I am so excited about this dress and can’t wait to share it – but you’ll have to wait!

On my agenda for this month…

Find a photographer – There are so many talented photographers available and so many types of packages that honestly I am a little overwhelmed by this decision. I’ve started to do my homework and visit blogs and websites so the list is coming along. Should I find a local photographer that travels or look for one in CT? Any helpful tips when selecting a photographer?

Finalize the Bridesmaid Dresses – I’ve decided on a mix and match theme and have my color shades selected but need to decide on a designer – Dessy, Alfred Angelo, Bill Levkoff and so many more to choose from.

Shopping for “The Dress”

After the wedding date and venue are set, it’s real. You immediately begin visualizing your wedding day. You imagine your family and friends gathered together, dream of your color palette and décor and envision yourself being twirled around on the dance floor in the most beautiful of gowns. That’s when most brides including myself begin the hunt for “the dress”.

What a fun, exciting part of wedding planning; a day(s) of shopping for the most exquisite (and expensive) dress you will ever wear. No pressure right? To be quite honest I wasn’t sure what to expect. People say “you’ll know you’ve found the one” but I wasn’t sure what that meant, or what that was supposed to feel like. I’ve been a witness to friends who’ve found the dress and each time different – excitement, tears or simply a great price. How would I know?

Like most mothers, mine was eager to start wedding dress shopping with her daughter. So I started making a few appointments at local bridal shops. Some were mom and pop shops, others bigger chain department stores. At my first few appointments I was picky, there were a lot of dresses that just didn’t interest me. I knew what I wanted; lace, straps, low back, a little bling but not over the top and something in a sheath fit. Was that too many requirements? Sometimes I felt that way but other times I thought I just haven’t found the one. So I took a different approach, I searched for “the dress” online which in turn would hopefully lead me to the right shop. By doing my research I was introduced to all the bridal designers and their unique styles. I felt more confident that “the dress” was out there and more knowledgeable as to wear to find it. {Be sure to pop over to MA Wedding Guide as I shared some of my helpful tips on shopping for your wedding dress.}

There are so many stunning dresses available but I was able to narrow down some styles by some of these brilliant designers; Allure, Casablanca, Stella York, Maggie Sottero. My google search on these dresses led me to Party Dress Express Bridal Shop. The best part is they were hosting an Allure Trunk Show and the following weekend a Stella York trunk show. Now I was excited, made my appointments and off I went. Here were two dresses I fell in love with at each show. What do you think, could one of these be “the dress”?

We’ve set a Date!

I can’t believe I’ve been engaged for almost 5 months, time has certainly flown by. The excitement and giddiness that surrounds an engagement is amazing and truly a special time, I am so glad I was able to relish in that moment. (If you missed our engagement story, click here)

Wedding planning starts almost immediately though, doesn’t it? After the “Congratulations” the questions begin, “Did you set a date?” “Did you find a venue?” “Do you know what kind of dress you want?” It can be terrifying and overwhelming. I don’t want this experience to be like that and I believe it’s up to you as a couple to ensure wedding planning doesn’t consume you and stress you out. In an effort to get organized and stay stress free, my fiancé and I decided to take a weekend and brainstorm. We created an excel spreadsheet (nerdy?) and got organized. A tab was created for each important part of our wedding planning. We started from the beginning moments of our wedding weekend and worked our way to the end discussing all the different ideas we had, the do’s and don’ts, names of family and friends, our wish list splurges and our max budget. It was actually fun and quite freeing. We felt organized and in sync. It helped us visualize what our day should be like and prepare for our first big wedding decision… picking the venue.

Where will we celebrate such a wonderful occasion? There are so many things to consider as well as decisions and obstacles to work around. Each venue is unique and different in what they offer. We had a few requirements for our venue.

• accommodate approximately 130-150 guests
• offer an outdoor space for the ceremony
• most importantly, the reception site would need to be a barn

Our vision is to create an intimate rustic wedding day. So we began our hunt for the perfect New England wedding barn. There are so many great rustic venues to choose from but finding one that met our requirements and budget was difficult. That is until we stumbled upon CT Wedding Group and discovered their amazing venue, The Barn at Wesleyan Hills.

After arranging a visit we knew this was our place. The staff was amazing and the venue incredible. The place sold itself and everything else – from the décor packages to the food – was a bonus. So with no hesitation we picked our date and venue and could not be more excited. On May 30th, 2015, we will be married at The Barn at Wesleyan Hills in Connecticut.

With years of working in the wedding industry for TheWeddingOutlet.com & MAWeddingGuide.com, I’ve been surrounded by wedding tips & trends, designer accessories and so much more wedding inspiration. I should have this whole wedding planning business done easy since I was a pro, right? I’m not too sure. Now that I am a bride, it will be interesting to see what my thoughts and ideas on wedding planning is from the driver seat.
