Creating a Bridesmaid Color Palette

There is a lot to consider when creating your wedding color palette; season, venue, personality, atmosphere to name a few. When planning my color palette, like most brides, I started by selecting my bridesmaids’ dresses. I knew I wanted a color combination that blended to create a soft and romantic color palette. I chose Allure dresses in soft neutral, pink tones with a subtle touch of blue-ish green.

I wanted to accessorize these dresses with something simple, feminine and complimented each of the colors. I found Shine Bridal Jewelry Shop on Etsy. I LOVED the style, color selection and design options available to create a true one of kind gift for my bridesmaids. They offer a wide selection of beautiful handmade stock pieces; or you may create your own custom design if you want to mix & match colors and shapes (which is what I did).  Each set was a perfect match – don’t you think!? The great thing about these earrings is that they are completely versatile – they can be worn at the wedding and everyday after! Each pair of bridesmaid’s earrings arrived beautifully package and ready for gifting in a small kraft colored box, wrapped in a pink satin bow. The girls loved them!

Wedding Trends Today & Tomorrow

With the year coming to a close, I reviewed some wedding trends from 2014 and looked for the latest news and views on trends for 2015 weddings. Here are my picks for the best of 2014 and what I think will be the most exciting trend for your 2015 wedding.

If I had to pick my one favorite 2014 wedding trend, I’d have to say soft & romantic (ok, that’s two I guess.)  Gowns, decorations, flowers and even cake frosting took on natural colors, blushes and nudes creating soft, sexy looks that exuded elegance.

Now for my 2015 trend pick – There are many new trends on the horizon for 2015 weddings but the 2015 wedding trend I am most excited about is bridal gown styles.  Bridal gown colors are moving forward from blushes and ivory tones to blues, greys and even light greens and they’re featuring new contemporary designs like two-piece crop top and off-the-shoulder styles. Brides now have more options than ever when shopping for a wedding gown.  Yeah for brides!

Are you incorporating a 2015 wedding trend into your wedding?  If so, which one?

Bridesmaid Inspiration

Choosing bridesmaid dresses can be a more difficult task than you anticipate. There are many designers all offering different dress styles, price points and color selection. I had an overall vision for my bridesmaids look; a soft mix and match palette of neutral tones, a simple style dress with a feminine and romantic feel. As most brides do, I spent some time browsing wedding blogs, Pinterest (of course) and read through helpful bridal fashion articles looking for ideas and inspiration on how to execute my vision.

The obvious next thing to do was head to the bridal shop. It was important for me to see it all in person before making my final decision. Kelly at Party Dress Express was amazing! Her experience, patience and knowledge of designers and colors was such an incredible help. She wasn’t sale-sy, distracted or annoyed by my questions and back and forth with colors. She truly felt like another bridesmaid, offering her opinion, making suggestions and allowing it all to be fun. The day was a success and led me to this beautiful wedding palette and gorgeous Allure {Style 1221} bridesmaid dress. What do you think?

TIP: Brides, allow bridal consultants to help you! They do this every day and chances are you vision or ideas are not far off from what another bride has done and their knowledge will save you time and stress.

DIY Flower Girl Tutu

When thinking about my nieces and what they would wear on our wedding day I knew I wanted it to be fun. They are little girls after all and what do little girls like to do – dress up! I decided on puffy flower girl tutus and thought this would make a fun DIY wedding project. I immediately checked YouTube and found helpful video tutorials offering tips and a visual guide.

Here is what I used and instructions to make a no sew flower girl tulle skirt:

1. Spool of Satin Ribbon for the waistband. (Approx: $3-$5)
Measured 18″, tied a knot. (this is to tie in a bow at the end)
Measured 20″, tied a knot. (this is to wrap around the waist)
Measured 18″, cut the ribbon. (this is to tie in a box at the end)

2. Pick your tulle colors. (On Sale for $1 a yard)
Mocha Tulle (9 yrds)
Blush Pink Tulle (3 yrds)

3. Razor Cutter (Purchased with a coupon for $8)
Easiest way to cut even strips of tulle.

4. Sparkle Embellishments (Purchased on sale for $3)
A few glued throughout the skirt for a little sparkle.

5. Super Glue (Had some at home – $0)

You simply cut the stripes to your desired length and tie to the ribbon. Continue to push pieces together as you move along the ribbon. The more you fit on the ribbon the thicker the skirt. For a step by step tutorial visit YouTube.

I’ve decided I will pair the skirt with an ivory leotard, sparkly ballet flats and a brooch barrette for their hair. After the wedding the girls can play dress up in the skirts. What do you think?
