Creating a Bridesmaid Color Palette

There is a lot to consider when creating your wedding color palette; season, venue, personality, atmosphere to name a few. When planning my color palette, like most brides, I started by selecting my bridesmaids’ dresses. I knew I wanted a color combination that blended to create a soft and romantic color palette. I chose Allure dresses in soft neutral, pink tones with a subtle touch of blue-ish green.

I wanted to accessorize these dresses with something simple, feminine and complimented each of the colors. I found Shine Bridal Jewelry Shop on Etsy. I LOVED the style, color selection and design options available to create a true one of kind gift for my bridesmaids. They offer a wide selection of beautiful handmade stock pieces; or you may create your own custom design if you want to mix & match colors and shapes (which is what I did).  Each set was a perfect match – don’t you think!? The great thing about these earrings is that they are completely versatile – they can be worn at the wedding and everyday after! Each pair of bridesmaid’s earrings arrived beautifully package and ready for gifting in a small kraft colored box, wrapped in a pink satin bow. The girls loved them!

DIY Bridal Shower Decorations

I recently planned a bridal shower for my sister so I searched online to get some ideas and design inspiration.  I found a number of vendors with some great handmade products but being the crafter that I am, I decided to try and make some of the decorative items myself. Here are some of the DIY decorations that I created for the event.

Since we were having brunch at an Italian restaurant in the fall, I decided to go with a rustic Italian theme.  I used a color palette of ivory, mossy green and light brown.  I made table centerpieces using sunflowers, mums and hydrangeas arranged in empty colorfully labeled tomato cans.  To decorate the gift table, I made a large paper mache letter (the letter of her new last name) covered in silk flowers.   I trimmed both the gift and dessert tables with a fabric garland that I made from tying strips of burlap, ribbon and tulle onto twine.  The favors were Italian soaps wrapped in burlap with brown paper heart tags that were stamped with “Thank You” and displayed in a large sunflower print cardboard box.

I shared my DIY decorations, now it’s your turn! Are you making anything fun and interesting for an upcoming shower or wedding?

Bridesmaid Inspiration

Choosing bridesmaid dresses can be a more difficult task than you anticipate. There are many designers all offering different dress styles, price points and color selection. I had an overall vision for my bridesmaids look; a soft mix and match palette of neutral tones, a simple style dress with a feminine and romantic feel. As most brides do, I spent some time browsing wedding blogs, Pinterest (of course) and read through helpful bridal fashion articles looking for ideas and inspiration on how to execute my vision.

The obvious next thing to do was head to the bridal shop. It was important for me to see it all in person before making my final decision. Kelly at Party Dress Express was amazing! Her experience, patience and knowledge of designers and colors was such an incredible help. She wasn’t sale-sy, distracted or annoyed by my questions and back and forth with colors. She truly felt like another bridesmaid, offering her opinion, making suggestions and allowing it all to be fun. The day was a success and led me to this beautiful wedding palette and gorgeous Allure {Style 1221} bridesmaid dress. What do you think?

TIP: Brides, allow bridal consultants to help you! They do this every day and chances are you vision or ideas are not far off from what another bride has done and their knowledge will save you time and stress.

The girls will be holding a simple style bouquet made up of an oversize single flower with greens. I am excited to see what my florist {Just for You Weddings} will come up with. Stay tuned for some Groomsmen Inspiration!

A Sweet Way to Pop the Question

I’m already married but I’ve just been proposed to!  My sister found such a cute and creative way to ask me to be in her bridal party that I had to share.

Etsy Seller: Preston’s Event Planning

I was out with my sister when she handed me a gift bag and told me to open it.  Inside was a small square box wrapped in ribbon.  When I pulled off the ribbon and opened the box, I found a candy ring pop and a message written on the top inside lid of the box, “Will you be my matron of honor?”  The invitation wasn’t a surprise to me but the way she popped the question sure was.  I’ve been in many weddings but was never asked in such a fun way.

Can you think of any other creative ways to ask your family and friends to be in your wedding?

Custom Touches for your Save the Dates

After a few days of proofs and edits, our plantable stationery vendor helped create a custom Save the Date that is perfect for our theme. The style and colors help set the tone for our Rustic Wedding. In only a few days time they arrived at my door and it was time to get to work! This was one of the first big tasks we had to do for our wedding and we wasted no time getting prepared. As we waited for the Save the Dates to arrive we used our time wisely to make this process as easy as possible. Here are some helpful tasks that will prepare you to send save the dates:

Prepare your Guest List
We created an excel spreadsheet for our guest list. In this we listed a series of columns filled with important information {name, address, etc} and one column titled “Save the Date”. After stuffing and sealing the envelope for that guest, a tally would be marked in that column to signify a mailing. At the end the number in the spreadsheet would match the physical number being mailed. Just a nice way to ensure you don’t overlook anyone.

Format Address Labels
If you choosing not to handwrite or calligrapher addresses, printing labels is the next best thing. I pulled all the addresses from our guest list and formatted them in a word doc. I selected a font that matches my Save the Dates and my labels were ready to print. Since my envelopes are a latte color, I purchased clear labels from Staples so you could barely see the label itself. I plan to use these for all my thank you cards and invitations. (Note: The use of labels is still said to be a no no in terms of wedding etiquette and tradition so you may get some slack for this.)

Return Address Labels
Addressing your envelopes with your return address can be done with a label or handwritten. I found that adding another label to the envelope was a bit too much and handwriting our address over and over seemed daunting. What about a self-inking address stamp? I love this idea! You can use for your wedding invitations, thank you cards and for any other mailings long after the wedding is over. I stumbled upon Yellow Fish Paperie which offers so many pretty return address stamps. I choose a design that works with our stationery and one that can be used after the wedding. Here are some of my favorites from Yellow Fish Paperie:

Purchase your Postage
Another expense that is not often thought about is postage. There are few wedding themed stamps available at USPS.com including white roses, wedding cake and a love stamp. While these stamps compliment almost any wedding theme , I didn’t really love any for our Save the Dates. After a little research I stumbled upon sites that offered Custom Wedding Postage. The variety of styles, themes and sizes are endless. I found an adorable stamp on Zazzle.com that was a perfect fit for our stationery. A rustic chalkboard style available with two custom text lines and a floral embellishment made this stamp a perfect match for our plantable save the dates. Here are a few of my favorites:
