Wedding Trends Today & Tomorrow

With the year coming to a close, I reviewed some wedding trends from 2014 and looked for the latest news and views on trends for 2015 weddings. Here are my picks for the best of 2014 and what I think will be the most exciting trend for your 2015 wedding.

If I had to pick my one favorite 2014 wedding trend, I’d have to say soft & romantic (ok, that’s two I guess.)  Gowns, decorations, flowers and even cake frosting took on natural colors, blushes and nudes creating soft, sexy looks that exuded elegance.

Now for my 2015 trend pick – There are many new trends on the horizon for 2015 weddings but the 2015 wedding trend I am most excited about is bridal gown styles.  Bridal gown colors are moving forward from blushes and ivory tones to blues, greys and even light greens and they’re featuring new contemporary designs like two-piece crop top and off-the-shoulder styles. Brides now have more options than ever when shopping for a wedding gown.  Yeah for brides!

Are you incorporating a 2015 wedding trend into your wedding?  If so, which one?

A Sweet Way to Pop the Question

I’m already married but I’ve just been proposed to!  My sister found such a cute and creative way to ask me to be in her bridal party that I had to share.

I was out with my sister when she handed me a gift bag and told me to open it.  Inside was a small square box wrapped in ribbon.  When I pulled off the ribbon and opened the box, I found a candy ring pop and a message written on the top inside lid of the box, “Will you be my matron of honor?”  The invitation wasn’t a surprise to me but the way she popped the question sure was.  I’ve been in many weddings but was never asked in such a fun way.

Can you think of any other creative ways to ask your family and friends to be in your wedding?

Shopping for “The Dress” – Part 2

Party Dress Express always has something exciting going on and I’ve been frequently checking their site to ensure I don’t miss an event! Here are some recent offerings; In honor of Mother’s Day all mother’s dresses were 20% off throughout the month of May. They had two fantastic trunk shows; Allure Bridal and Stella York – which I attended and fell in love with two dresses! And their most recent event was the Bridal Mystery sale – all in stock dresses 20% – 50%. Amazing! Bad news is given my small stature I most likely will need to order my dress once I find it. Nonetheless, I made another visit to Party Dress Express during the sale and – wouldn’t you know it – I fell in love with two more dresses. I’ll tell you, this whole dress thing is turning out to be harder than expected. There are so many beautiful dresses to choose from like these two below.

Shopping for “The Dress”

After the wedding date and venue are set, it’s real. You immediately begin visualizing your wedding day. You imagine your family and friends gathered together, dream of your color palette and décor and envision yourself being twirled around on the dance floor in the most beautiful of gowns. That’s when most brides including myself begin the hunt for “the dress”.

What a fun, exciting part of wedding planning; a day(s) of shopping for the most exquisite (and expensive) dress you will ever wear. No pressure right? To be quite honest I wasn’t sure what to expect. People say “you’ll know you’ve found the one” but I wasn’t sure what that meant, or what that was supposed to feel like. I’ve been a witness to friends who’ve found the dress and each time different – excitement, tears or simply a great price. How would I know?

Like most mothers, mine was eager to start wedding dress shopping with her daughter. So I started making a few appointments at local bridal shops. Some were mom and pop shops, others bigger chain department stores. At my first few appointments I was picky, there were a lot of dresses that just didn’t interest me. I knew what I wanted; lace, straps, low back, a little bling but not over the top and something in a sheath fit. Was that too many requirements? Sometimes I felt that way but other times I thought I just haven’t found the one. So I took a different approach, I searched for “the dress” online which in turn would hopefully lead me to the right shop. By doing my research I was introduced to all the bridal designers and their unique styles. I felt more confident that “the dress” was out there and more knowledgeable as to wear to find it. {Be sure to pop over to MA Wedding Guide as I shared some of my helpful tips on shopping for your wedding dress.}

There are so many stunning dresses available but I was able to narrow down some styles by some of these brilliant designers; Allure, Casablanca, Stella York, Maggie Sottero. My google search on these dresses led me to Party Dress Express Bridal Shop. The best part is they were hosting an Allure Trunk Show and the following weekend a Stella York trunk show. Now I was excited, made my appointments and off I went. Here were two dresses I fell in love with at each show. What do you think, could one of these be “the dress”?

Incorporating “something blue” into your wedding day is a popular wedding tradition that is still being done by brides today. We offer a wide variety of ways to include “something blue” in your wedding day. Some popular choices are blue bridal garters, blue brooches or bouquet jewelry, I Do Blue shoe stickers or even a piece of blue jewelry. Our new favorite that is featured today is a custom wedding dress label. They are available in a few styles including monogram, name and date, initial and more. You can even select which shade of blue thread you would like. This new wedding accessory has quickly become a favorite among brides for 2014 weddings.

Experience “Firsts” as a Couple

Last month, I met a Philadelphia area broadcaster who published a book about her year of “firsts.”  For a whole year, she documented her attempts at trying something new every day.  Shortly after, I read an article about a couple who decided to get married every day for one year.  I thought both ideas were very interesting and thought it would be really fun to combine the ideas.  Trying something new is sometimes scary but if one was to try something new every day, or even once a week with their spouse, it would make the experiences less frightening and more fun. I think sharing the experiences would help a newly married couple grow and even help a longer married couple get out of a relationship rut.

If you were to pick one “first” experience to share with your spouse, what would it be?
