The Fleur de Lis symbol is a stylized lily which is commonly associated with the French. It is widely used in family coat of arms as well as art and architecture across the world. Both elegant and artistic, this symbol has become a popular theme for weddings.

Ring in the Holidays with a Proposal
According to Conde Nast Bridal Group, December outpaces Valentine’s Day for proposals. Since the holiday season is probably the most popular time for guys to pop the question, it’s no wonder we are starting to see TV commercials advertising engagement rings. One recent spot I saw was for the new Neil Lane Bridal Collection from KAY Jewelers. Jeweler to Hollywood’s elite, Neil Lane is now making his styles available to all future brides.
The vintage-inspired contemporary jewelry collection features pieces that are hand cast and hand assembled from Lane’s original designs, the diamonds are hand set, engraving and scrolling is finished by hand, and then the finished pieces are given a four-step polishing process that makes them sparkle. I’ve only seen pictures but they look exquisite. There are many different styles available too, from diamond bands with a solitaire, to larger, more intricate pieces that feature diamonds, surrounded by diamonds, surrounded by even more diamonds. Now that’s the one I’d want!
Have you seen the new Neil Lane Bridal Collection? How’d you like it?

Filene’s Basement to close its Doors
Filene’s Basement, started in 1909 in Boston by William Filene, is going out-of-business. Going-out-of business sales began on November 16th. The closing of Filene’s, best known for its annual “Running of the Brides” sales event, where brides-to-be would camp outside the stores and wait in line for hours with their family and friends for a chance at buying discounted bridal gowns, is sure to deliver a devastating blow to future brides who were hoping to snag a discounted designer gown at the event. I find it so sad that another great retailer, over 100 years old, will be history.
Were you planning to attend a “Running of the Brides” sale? Tell us your story.

Veterans Day Wedding Winners
All over the world, couples are marrying on 11/11/11 as the date is believed to bring good luck, but in the United States 11/11/11 also happens to be Veterans Day, so military couples getting married on this day are finding it especially significant.
The day is particularly special for Waltham couple U.S. Air Force Tech Sergeant Andrew Limes and Lauren Joyce. The pair competed against other military couples and won an all expenses paid Veterans Day wedding plus honeymoon by the Westin Copley Place valued at $100,000.
The competition will now be an annual event and I think it’s a great way to honor our military.
Congratulations to them and Happy Veteran’s Day!
