In the past, I’ve written blogs about couples that have married in unique, non-traditional locations. There were couples who were married in a helicopter above the Vegas strip, underwater weddings, couples who exchanged vows strapped to the outside of biplanes, and even couples who dressed as their favorite sci-fi characters and married at Comic-Con, but I came across a blog that had a few places I felt could be mentioned as well.

Just in time for Halloween when all things weird and wacky are wonderful, The Huffington Post ran a blog entitled, “Weirdest Wedding Locales: 5 Unusual Places Couples Have Wed”, and some of the places people are tying the knot may surprise you. A 99 Cents Store, Taco Bell, and a doughnut shop were among the 5 unusual places. Check out the other locations and tell us about any other unusual wedding locations you may have heard about.

Have a Magical Wedding at Disney World

Walt Disney World celebrates its 40^th anniversary this weekend so I wanted to send a birthday shout out to one of my all time favorite and most fun places to vacation. Some may think of Disney World as a resort only for families but Disney World is a popular destination for weddings and honeymoons as well.

Disney World’s theme and water parks, resort hotels and various nighttime activities are what make it a top ranking honeymoon destination but you can also get married there. They offer several types of packages including one where you get married in the Magic Kingdom and ride in Cinderalla’s Coach. I can’t think of a more magical wedding than that!

San Diego Comic-Con takes place July 21 – 24^th and for some fans of anime, science fiction, fantasy, superheroes, video games, and, yes, comic books, it’s the perfect place to exchange “I dos.”

Where else but Comic-Con can you have a Star Wars, Star Trek or superhero themed wedding. Since Comic-Con attendees often go dressed as their favorite characters, you can have even more fun with the theme by having a bridal party of masked caped crusaders or storm troopers. Now that’s making a wedding unique!

Bringing Your Wedding to Ireland

According to recent bridal surveys, green weddings are popular, but with St. Patrick’s Day today, I’d like to suggest another type of “green” wedding, a wedding in Ireland. Many couples bring Irish style to their wedding with bagpipers, a green color scheme or Irish dancers, but what if you brought your wedding to Ireland instead?

I think Ireland’s castles, mild climate, green cliffs and mountains make spectacular, almost fairy tale like settings, for a wedding. Getting married in Ireland does take some extra planning though. You must notify the proper officials at least three months in advance and there are some residency requirements. There are also restrictions as to where weddings can actually take place. Do your homework and be diligent with your paperwork to avoid any disasters, or better yet, hire an Irish wedding planner to help with all the details.

A wedding in Ireland would be wonderful and I look forward to hearing from brides who are planning to get or have been married in Ireland.

Tackling a Super Bowl Wedding

For football fans, having a football themed wedding is a great way to add a personal touch to your day. Ultimate fans that are lucky enough to have their home town teams make it to the Super Bowl might take this idea one step further with a Super Bowl Sunday wedding. There’s not much time to plan, but couples have pulled it off in the past.

A few ideas for a Super Bowl XLV wedding might include decorating in the colors of the competing teams, green and gold for the Green Bay Packers or black and gold for the Pittsburgh Steelers, serving popular foods from WI like chesses or pierogis from PA, asking your guests to wear football jerseys, ordering a football shaped or football field cake, or sending invitations that look like a game ticket. An idea this couple had for the flowers – a bouquet of flowers in a football. Love that!
