Say I Do Again

I know many of you are just trying to make it through the wedding the first time but have you given any thought to renewing your vows down the line? Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon recently renewed their vows at the Eiffel Tower four years after their wedding.

Some couples renew their vows every year on their anniversary while others, like me, pick a special anniversary to do it. I think renewing your vows helps you remember what you love about each other and why you married in the first place. When life is so busy, it’s sometimes easy to forget that. Renewing your vows can make you feel like newlyweds all over again and who wouldn’t want that?

Angie’s Ring Rocks

Hollywood’s hottest couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, got engaged recently. No biggie. People get engaged every day but most women don’t get a rock like the one Angelina is now sporting.

Brad Pitt worked with a jeweler in designing the ring for more than a year. It features a large emerald cut diamond with smaller, similarly shaped diamonds that circle her finger. I think it has a bit of an Art Deco look to it and I just love it. What do you think of it?

Queen Crashes Wedding

After seeing Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson’s characters in the movie Wedding Crashers, who eat, drink and try to hook up with women at the weddings they crash, I don’t think I’d be too happy about catching someone crashing my wedding. Unless of course, the wedding crashers were Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. That’s exactly who crashed the wedding of John and Frances Canning.

The couple knew the queen would be visiting the Manchester Town Hall the day of their wedding there. So John wrote to Buckingham Palace to invite the monarch but his invitation was declined. Or so he thought. Secretly, arrangements were being made for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to stop by. I can’t even imagine the look of surprise that John and Frances had when they saw the queen. The queen wished them well and even posed for photos with the newlyweds. Now those are wedding crashers everyone would welcome.

Get Married Magazine’s Fall 2011 Issue

Get Married Magazine launches its first celebrity issue with actress Tamera Mowry in Badgley Mischka on the cover. Mowry, known for her roles in Sister, Sister and Tia and Tamera, and her husband, Fox News Correspondent Adam Housely, dish on wedding planning and balancing work and personal life.

Also in this Fall 2011 issue, Star Style Tips by one of my faves, David Tutera, host of MY Fair Wedding with David Tutera on WE TV, Monte Durham from TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, and celebrity hairstylist Ken Pave. Plus, there are lots of freebies for brides from Noritake china to a wedding dress from Mon Cheri Bridals. It’s on newsstands July 26^th so pick one up.

Now’s Your Chance to See the Royal Wedding Dress

If you weren’t invited to the Royal Wedding like most of us, you can now get an up close look at the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding gown. According to the Associated Press, Royal Collection officials just announced that the wedding dress, designed by Sarah Burton of the Alexander McQueen fashion house, will be on display at Buckingham Palace from July 23^rd until October 3^rd as part of a special exhibit that also includes the veil, tiara, shoes and diamond earrings.

If you’re visiting London this summer or fall, you may want to check it out.

Royal Wedding Recap

People all over the world tuned in to watch the Royal Wedding of Prince William and his new bride, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge on April 29^th. With so many enchanting touches, it’s hard to pick just a few but here are some of my favorite moments.

Exits – I didn’t think there could be a more romantic exit than the couple’s horse-drawn carriage ride from Westminster Abbey until I saw Prince William driving his bride around the grounds of Buckingham Palace in an Aston Martin convertible, complete with a trail of balloons and the vanity plate Just Wed.

The dress – After months of speculation, we finally got to see the wedding gown and it was well worth the wait. Princess Catherine wore a gorgeous 1950s style ivory gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen featuring a bodice with hand-made lace overlay, high lace collar and lace long sleeves, ivory satin skirt , ivory silk tulle veil and Queen Elizabeth’s Cartier tiara. Her simple jewelry and down hairstyle perfectly complemented her look. The Princess was simply stunning.

The kiss – The newlyweds stood in front of over 500,000 people on a balcony at Buckingham Palace for their first kiss. A bit quick, the crowd prompted them to kiss again. The couple happily obliged, giving us two kisses.

The hats – I loved checking out all of the formal wide brimmed hats and funky fascinators complete with feathers, bows, tulle and flowers. Hope these become a hot trend for weddings in the US as well.

The fashions, history and tradition of the Royal Wedding didn’t overshadow the obvious love and friendship the Royal Couple have for each other. Congratulations to the newlyweds!

A Royal Wedding in the Digital Age

With the incredible popularity of social media websites and the internet in general, more and more engaged couples are creating personal wedding websites with photos, directions to the venues, important dates, music, and overnight accommodation information. It’s no surprise then that a website recently launched celebrating the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton taking place on Friday, April 29, 2011.

The royal wedding website is the official place to get the latest news on the wedding details, see photos of the couple, information on travel to London, and view tours and pictures of Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. The website also includes access to the Royal Wedding’s official Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Flickr pages, so you can always get breaking news and photos as they become available.

Real Housewife, Cynthia Bailey, Ties the Knot

The season finale of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” aired Sunday, January 30^th and it featured the wedding of new housewife Cynthia Bailey and Peter Thomas. All I can say is “Wow!”

All season, we weren’t sure if the wedding would really happen but we found out Sunday night, amid some drama and doubt, that they did indeed tie the knot last July. The wedding took place at a really cool venue, the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, which features the world’s largest dinosaurs. Cynthia’s non-traditional, non-white dress, a one-of-a-kind platinum dress designed by Rubin Singer, looked absolutely amazing on her! Her elegant updo allowed the shoulder and neck detailing of the dress to shine and I just loved her cascading bouquet of flowers and super-sized, sparkling earrings. Peter and Cynthia’s daughter, Noelle, also looked terrific.

I think they did a great job of incorporating some of the bridal industry’s latest trends of non-white bridal gowns, unique locations, and classic updos to achieve an untraditional and stylish event.
