Wedding Jewelry Options

May 27th, 2008 by Debbie

Today’s bride has many choices for her wedding jewelry.  She can choose from traditional pearls or go for the glitter of rhinestones, diamonds or cubic zirconia.

When selecting wedding jewelry it is important that the jewelry does not overpower the dress.  If you are wearing a strapless or low neckline dress, you should consider both a necklace and earrings set.  If you are wearing a high neckline you should forego the necklace for a set of nice earrings and possibly a bracelet.

Pearls are a classic look for a bride to wear on her wedding day.

Cubic Zirconia Jewlery
Today many cubic zirconia pieces look just like real diamonds. Cubic zirconia offers the glimmer of real diamonds without the expense.  A cubic zirconia jewelry set makes a nice gift for the bride to give to her bridesmaids.

Something Borrowed Something Blue

July 20th, 2007 by Debbie

Something borrowed, something blue.  Most brides know the saying and some brides even stress out trying to find an item for each. But selecting these four good luck items to carry should be fun and not a source of stress. If you think about it, you may already have all the items you need. Something old is easy, perhaps a piece of jewelry from your great-grandmother. Something new, take your pick. You’ll have lots of new stuff for your wedding including your dress so that shouldn’t be so hard. Something borrowed, again, not so hard. There must be some item of your best friend or sister that you’d like to borrow for the day. Finding something blue may be a little tougher so here are a few ideas for the something blue for your wedding.

Most brides wear a garter on their wedding day so why not wear a something blue bridal garter? A white lace garter with a small blue flower and bow or a blue embroidered lace garter is a perfect way to wear something blue.

A hanky is another item that can have a bit of blue trim and act as your something blue. The hanky can be discreetly tucked into a bouquet or it can be carried in a purse.

So, don’t sweat the something blue or borrowed, old or new. Have fun choosing the items and you’re sure to have good luck.

An Aisle Runner will Protect the Bridal Gown

June 6th, 2007 by Debbie

Brides spend an enormous amount of time and money for their wedding dresses so it’s a good idea to use an aisle runner at the ceremony.  Wedding aisle runners can be used indoors or outdoors and are a great way to protect the bridal gown and train from dragging on the floor and getting dirty.  Aisle runners are available in durable plastic or fabric and different textures like matte, pearl or patterned.

A fabric aisle runner is traditionally used for the wedding ceremony.  The color of the aisle runner should match the color of the wedding dress.  (A bride wearing an ivory gown should have an ivory aisle runner.)  Aisle runners are also available in a variety of colors to coordinate with bridal party dresses or color scheme of the wedding.

Some wedding aisle runners have intricate foliated white lace.  Some runners are white and semi-clear, accented with large floral designs or small intricate blossoms that bring the beauty of nature to your feet.

For a unique and modern wedding aisle runner, a white runner with an imprinted message or quote like “And The Two Shall Become One” is a fun alternative to the traditional lacey or floral versions.

The aisle runner is the place for the bride to stand out while keeping her gown as gleaming as her smile.

Christina’s Wedding Dress

May 24th, 2007 by Debbie

Ok, I finally watched the season finale of Gray’s Anatomy.  Although I was disappointed that Burke and Christina didn’t get hitched, I loved Christina’s wedding gown!  I thought it was elegant and sophisticated - although the chocker was a bit much.  After doing a little research I found the gown was designed by Amsale Aberra

Amsal has been designing wedding dresses since the mid-eighties and her very first dress was for her own wedding!  Realizing that many women shared her difficulty finding the “right dress”, Amsale launched her bridal wear business in 1986.

Totally Tiara

May 22nd, 2007 by Debbie

There are a lot of hot hair accessories for weddings.  Brides can choose hair jewelry, traditional headpieces, hair sticks, veils, hats or simple flowers.  But one of the hottest hair accessory trends is the bridal tiara.  The wearing of a tiara has been a sign of nobility. Princess Diana and Princess Grace Kelly looked fabulous in their tiaras and a bridal tiara worn on wedding day makes every bride feel like a princess too.

Wedding tiaras can be worn with or without a veil.  They can be adorned with a chain of flowers designed on a vine, flower sprays with pearl tipped blossoms, butterflies or vintage style with flowers, roses and pearls.

A simple headband style is one alternative to the traditional wedding tiara.  Braided rows of rhinestones, simple yet sophisticated, can add a bit of shimmering style.

If you prefer something extra glamorous, go for a more embellished look and pick a headband tiara with a combination of woven rhinestones and white pearls.

Headband type bridal tiaras is not the only style you can get.  A halo type that sits on top of the head is another option and works well with upswept hair styles.

For a regal look fit for a queen, choose a looped tiara, adorned with seven loops made from pearls.  A perfect fit for a fairytale wedding.

And don’t forget a tiara for your flower girl.  A flower girl tiara makes every girl feel like a princess too.

The Good Luck Wedding Garter

May 9th, 2007 by Debbie

Garters were originally used to hold up stockings but since today most are made with elastic, the wedding garter is worn as a fashion item.  There are a few traditions related to wearing a wedding garter.  Some say it is good luck to have an item of clothing from the bride.

Another tradition is tossing the garter, where the groom removes the garter and tosses it to the single men at the wedding.  It is said that the man who catches the garter will be the next to marry.  For this tradition, many brides choose to buy two bridal garters, one as a keepsake and one to toss.

Garters can be plain and simple, made from white satin with a small bow detail or they can be intricately embroidered.

Garters can be made from sheer organza and accented with rich Swarovski crystals.

Garters can also be colorful.  A popular wedding saying goes, “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”  A garter in a lovely shade of pale blue or with delicate blue accents like satin flowers or ribbons is a great way for the bride to fulfill the ‘blue” part of that saying.

The style of the wedding garter may also reflect the theme of a wedding.  You’ll find garters styled for black and white, calla lily, irish, hearts and other popular wedding themes.

Brides today still wear a garter, carrying on the tradition of centuries ago.  Give away a garter at the wedding and share good luck with friends and family.
