When He Has a Dog and You Have a Cat

A lot of thought is given to the idea of merging two families once a couple gets married but what happens when a couple needs to merge their pets?  We’ve probably all seen the Brady Bunch episode where Mike and Carol are getting married and Tiger, the boys’ dog, and Fluffy, the girls’ cat, run amuck at the wedding.  According to the ASPCA website, dogs and cats really can get along.  Here are some tips from their website that may help your pets adjust to your new married lifestyle.

If merging a cat and dog into one household, the ASPCA says it seems more normal for a cat and dog to live together if they have become familiar with the other species when they are younger, so hopefully, your pets have already done this if they are older.  Also, if your dog needs help with anxiety after a move to a new home or city, try to keep to your dog’s feeding and walking schedule as close as you can to what it was before the move.  Extra attention is also good.

Planning a wedding can be stressful for everyone including your pets so to make it an easier transition for them, check out websites like http://www.aspca.org/ for answers to frequently asked questions that may help your pet.  Pets are a part of the family and with a little extra love and care; they can adjust to your married life without difficulty.
