Father Daughter Dance Songs
Wedding music is really important. Whether you prefer a band or a DJ, you also have to pick a few songs for the important dances of the evening like the first dance, mother son dance and father daughter dance. I was reading an article about the relationships between fathers and daughters that got me thinking about the father daughter wedding dance and how there really aren’t too many songs about that relationship that might make a good song to dance to.
In my neighborhood, Daddy’s Little Girl by Al Martino was the song that most new brides danced to with their dads (that’s the song my dad and I danced to) and is clearly about fathers and daughters but there are some others that also work well for this traditional dance.
If you’re still trying to decide which song to dance with your dad to, here is a list of a couple of my favorites in no particular order:
*Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle
*The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra
*Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler
*Dance With My Father by Luther Vandross
*You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban
Looking for more ideas? Check out this website that lists a bunch of appropriate and traditionally used songs. It has lyrics to the songs and if you click where it says listen and follow the links, you can hear a sample of the song.

Hi there : )
Coming from a wedding photographer (who’s heard all the father/daughter dance songs SO many times), I think Luther Vandross’s Dance With My Father is not quite appropriate for weddings (and I cringe every time I hear it), because its about a child talking about the death of their father. Unless the bride’s father has passed away, and she’s dancing with another relative, I think Dance With My Father ends up being awkward :\.
great post.
