Pew Bows to Dress Up Your Wedding Décor

May 30th, 2007 by Debbie

Wedding pew bows are not just for pews anymore. Although church pew bows are typically used to reserve the front rows of pews for immediate family and closest friends or used to decorate all of the center aisle pews or chairs at the wedding ceremony, with a little imagination and creativity, you can create customized wedding pew bows that can be used for the ceremony and reception.

Simple, white poly ribbon pull bows fastened to the aisle seats are elegant on their own as a decorative accent at the ceremony.  They also are a perfect backdrop for creating a customized look.  By adding mini plastic champagne glasses, wedding bells, bride and groom figurines, or gold wedding bands to the bows, you can create your own unique wedding pew bow.  For summer or beach theme weddings, add a large starfish, sand dollar or shell for a nautical look.

Pair net lace pull bows, accented with silk greenery or flowers, with white tulle draped from pew to pew for a soft, romantic look.

Metallic colored pew bows gleam and add glamour.  Silver or gold pew bows create a dramatic look when paired with white tulle and make a stunning addition to the ceremony or reception.

Church Pew bows aren’t just for pews.  Not only used for reserved seating in church or decorating each aisle, pew bows can also be used to decorate the cars of the bridal party. You can use pew bows at the reception too. Wedding bows can be used as decorative accents across the front of the bridal party table, seating assignment table, or cake cutting table.  You can even use a pew bow to decorate the backs of chairs, bathroom doors or sinks, or the front of the bar.  Get creative and add pew bows to dress up your décor.

Christina’s Wedding Dress

May 24th, 2007 by Debbie

Ok, I finally watched the season finale of Gray’s Anatomy.  Although I was disappointed that Burke and Christina didn’t get hitched, I loved Christina’s wedding gown!  I thought it was elegant and sophisticated - although the chocker was a bit much.  After doing a little research I found the gown was designed by Amsale Aberra

Amsal has been designing wedding dresses since the mid-eighties and her very first dress was for her own wedding!  Realizing that many women shared her difficulty finding the “right dress”, Amsale launched her bridal wear business in 1986.

Totally Tiara

May 22nd, 2007 by Debbie

There are a lot of hot hair accessories for weddings.  Brides can choose hair jewelry, traditional headpieces, hair sticks, veils, hats or simple flowers.  But one of the hottest hair accessory trends is the bridal tiara.  The wearing of a tiara has been a sign of nobility. Princess Diana and Princess Grace Kelly looked fabulous in their tiaras and a bridal tiara worn on wedding day makes every bride feel like a princess too.

Wedding tiaras can be worn with or without a veil.  They can be adorned with a chain of flowers designed on a vine, flower sprays with pearl tipped blossoms, butterflies or vintage style with flowers, roses and pearls.

A simple headband style is one alternative to the traditional wedding tiara.  Braided rows of rhinestones, simple yet sophisticated, can add a bit of shimmering style.

If you prefer something extra glamorous, go for a more embellished look and pick a headband tiara with a combination of woven rhinestones and white pearls.

Headband type bridal tiaras is not the only style you can get.  A halo type that sits on top of the head is another option and works well with upswept hair styles.

For a regal look fit for a queen, choose a looped tiara, adorned with seven loops made from pearls.  A perfect fit for a fairytale wedding.

And don’t forget a tiara for your flower girl.  A flower girl tiara makes every girl feel like a princess too.

There are many more hair accessory options available to brides today.  No matter what type you choose, choose an accessory that works well with your hairstyle and gown style to ensure a flawless look.

Choosing a Wedding Cake Topper

May 18th, 2007 by Debbie

Wedding cake toppers have come a long way since the days of the plastic bride and groom figures.  And with more and more importance being put on the wedding cake, more importance needs to be put on the wedding cake top.  Some different types of wedding cake tops to consider are:

Modern Wedding Cake Toppers:
Contemporary wedding cake tops are available in glazed ceramic and are like a piece of artwork.  The styling of linked hearts or a couple kissing as their bodies form a heart create a unique sculpture for the cake top.

Create a modern retro look with an acrylic wedding cake topper.  The acrylic cake tops can be square shaped with etched initials or snowflakes and the cake tops are also available in fun shapes like daisies or hearts.

The monogram gets a modern makeover with a large freestanding aluminum letter of the couple’s last name for a wedding cake top.

Traditional Wedding Cake Toppers:
When you think of the traditional cake top, you think of the still popular porcelain bride and groom.  You can also do traditional with a twist.  A heart shaped cake top with colorful faux jewel butterflies, flower sprays, etched glass and sheer butterfly ribbon and lavender flowers at the base is a magnificent accessory for any wedding cake.

Basket shaped cake top with delicate miniature roses, a pair of white porcelain doves, or rhinestone monogram letters with Swarovski crystals are another traditional way to go.

Funny Wedding Cake Toppers:
For couples with a great sense of humor there are even funny cake tops.  A comical couple with the bride dragging the groom, a groom falling over “taking the plunge” or a “gone fishing” cake top with bride catching the groom on a fishing rod offer a comical spin on the cake topper.

Wedding Theme Cake Toppers:
Many couples hold themed weddings and there are many types of cake tops to go along with a variety of themes.  Cake tops are available with his and her western boots, the Asian double happiness symbol, shells and starfish, snowflakes or porcelain Claddagh.  And for the fairy tale wedding, a glass castle cake top with gold accents and lace or a gold carriage adorned with rhinestones, make dreams come true and your cake look great.

The wedding cake topper is as much a focal point at the wedding as the cake.  Shop around to find a style that’s right for you.

TiVo Wedding Theme!

May 15th, 2007 by Debbie

Here’s a first - a Tivo Wedding Theme.  A couple took their love of tv and incorporated it into their wedding with a TV inspired wedding theme.

They had a local baker create bride and groom Tivo cakes.  They even named tables after their favorite tv shows, including “Desperate Housewives”,  “Heroes”, “Las Vegas” and “Nip/Tuck”.

TiVo Wedding Theme

When TiVo got wind of the wedding they generously donated TiVo antennas ears for guests to wear and TiVo dolls for favors.

Hopefully, their story will inspire other couples to incoporate something they love or share into their wedding.

The Good Luck Wedding Garter

May 9th, 2007 by Debbie

Garters were originally used to hold up stockings but since today most are made with elastic, the wedding garter is worn as a fashion item.  There are a few traditions related to wearing a wedding garter.  Some say it is good luck to have an item of clothing from the bride.

Another tradition is tossing the garter, where the groom removes the garter and tosses it to the single men at the wedding.  It is said that the man who catches the garter will be the next to marry.  For this tradition, many brides choose to buy two bridal garters, one as a keepsake and one to toss.

Styles of Wedding Garters

Garters can be plain and simple, made from white satin with a small bow detail or they can be intricately embroidered.

Garters can be made from sheer organza and accented with rich Swarovski crystals.

Garters can also be colorful.  A popular wedding saying goes, “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”  A garter in a lovely shade of pale blue or with delicate blue accents like satin flowers or ribbons is a great way for the bride to fulfill the ‘blue” part of that saying.

The style of the wedding garter may also reflect the theme of a wedding.  You’ll find garters styled for black and white, calla lily, irish, hearts and other popular wedding themes.

Brides today still wear a garter, carrying on the tradition of centuries ago.  Give away a garter at the wedding and share good luck with friends and family.

Calla Lily Weddng Theme Ideas

May 3rd, 2007 by Debbie

Beautiful weddings begin with calla lilies.  The word calla originates from the Greek word for beauty and what a beautiful wedding you’ll have if you go with a calla lily wedding theme.  The calla lily has a funnel shaped petal, usually white in color, with a spike of flowers in the center, and can be incorporated into your wedding in a number of ways.

Starting Your Wedding Calla Lily Theme:
Look for invitation with a calla lily design.  Consider creating your own invitations with an invitaion kit with a calla lily print and seal the envelopes with silver embossed calla lily seals.  Your inviations will alert your guests from the very beginning that you are holding a calla lily themed wedding.

Once your wedding day rolls around, continue the theme at the ceremony.  Use calla lily wedding program paper for the ceremony details so that your guests can follow along.

You can also have your ring bearer and flower girl carry calla lily accented wedding accessories like the ring pillow and flower basket down the aisle.  Consider lighting a calla lily unity candle during the ceremony.

Keep the Calla Lilies Coming:

At the reception, use fresh calla lilies for the centerpieces and give guests a calla lily wedding favor like a picture frame to take home.  The frames can also be used to hold the guest place card.  Play up the calla lilies during significant moments of the reception too.  For your first toast, use crystal flutes with a calla lily decoration on the stems and when cutting your calla topped cake, use a serving set adorned with miniature porcelain lilies.

The calla lily wedding theme can be taken even further with calla lily accented guest books, pens, money bags and even garters.  Use your imagination and get creative!

The calla lily is a symbol of beauty.  Incorporating this flower into bouquets, arrangements, and accessories is very popular for weddings and may be the style for you.
